A journey towards corporate engagement.

''I have seen the office getting larger and after three years I realize the journey we had so far, but it’s not as exciting as what is yet to come.''

Soomin Chung is a Corporate account manager at ACT.
Could you tell me a bit about your journey? Sure! I studied international law and politics, it always made sense for me to be abroad. I got into international schools early on, which broadened my perspective. After that, I started my career working at Hyundai in Rotterdam in their sales department, I developed there an interest in sustainable products, but I felt that it wasn't enough, and I needed more challenge. After some time, I was approached on to work on the UK desk, which really piqued my interest in sustainable products. I got involved in renewable gas, electricity, and carbon offsets. Why did you choose ACT?  I was approached by one of the recruiters and the first conversation got me intrigued. What really caught my attention was that ACT had a future-focused vision. I felt that I would be at the right place at the right time, especially since it was a young company with rapid growth. I liked the flexibility and fluidity they offered, and I had more ownership over my projects.

What has your focus been since joining ACT?  I've been focusing on corporates in the UK and Ireland, particularly in the FMCG (fast-moving consumer goods industry). Working with the UK team was a whole new learning curve. There was a lot of growth involved, especially in learning the products and understanding the unique way we do business here.  How is the business approach different? There's more focus on the broad spectrum of clients you can get, and every day is quite different. There’s a lot of cross-selling involved, it never really feels like you are selling a product, the approach is more comprehensive towards the client's needs in order to solve their challenges. Our goal is really to help clients with end-to end decarbonization offers and build long term relationships to support them all along the way.

It's very exciting to see how corporates engage themselves to reshape the way they look at their activity and improve their potential in a sustainable perspective for the coming years. I heard you were part of Women in Carbon. Can you tell us about that and the evolution of this field? Yes, I joined one of their events recently. It’s great to exchange with experts from all over the world and see how the industry evolves in shape and structure. When I first joined, I was the only woman on the floor, it was a challenging experience, but the the mindset and the openness here attracted a diverse range of profiles, which has enriched our culture. I am proud every day to work in this growing market where other women are becoming icons and pioneers.   How has ACT evolved since you joined?  ACT has seen explosive growth in terms of brand image and has become more structured. We're becoming a significant corporate partner now. I have seen the office getting larger and after three years I realize the journey we had so far, but it’s not as exciting as what is yet to come.  Why do you choose to stay with ACT? There’s a lot of flexibility in the business you can build and develop.
The challenging market keeps me driven. I’ve recently started a new chapter in my life by moving to a new city, Amsterdam. I’ve always been very active, and ACT has helped me realize that to be the best version of myself, I need to maintain a good work-life balance. I even completed a half marathon recently and have set new targets for myself. On top of that the city is really nice and charming, the atmosphere is quite different but feels very peaceful. There’s a Korean store close to the office where I can get some good food at lunch. It’s little things like that which make a difference in daily life.
